Helping and assisting in specialised veterinary actsAssisting with consultations
Assisting with surgery
Care of hospitalised animals
Laboratory work
X-rays, anaesthetics, resuscitation
It is to be noted that in certain countries there are regulations covering the performance of these acts by persons other than veterinary surgeons. In other countries this is not the case. In terms of relative frequency of tasks required of veterinary assistants, assisting during consultations and surgery is found on the one hand as well as other more specialised tasks. Veterinary assistants are frequently asked to assist with consultations and surgery. However, tasks requiring more expertise are less often entrusted to veterinary assistants: laboratory work, x-rays, anaesthetics and resuscitation. These tasks are required the least often. Care for hospitalised animals comes in between from the point of view of the frequency with which they are required of veterinary assistants. |
